ENGLISH 1A – 7PM

8/27/20

7-7:10pm:  What are you writing in your journal?  Haven’t started?  All good…. Please try it!!

7:10-7:30pm:  Sedaris findings… Share your thoughts.  What sources did you find?

7:30-7:50pm:  His character…. How would you describe it?

7:50-8pm:  Before we read, what do we want from our read?  That is… do you have certain expectations?  What do you like to read?  How do you like to feel after reading something?

8pm-8:15pm:  Tell us about how you read…. Do you take notes?  Write in the margins of your book?  In a journal?  WHAT?

8:15-8:35pm:  As a student, we are constantly challenged, and show new approaches to working on our projects.  We are “taught”, yes, but we also self-educate.  How do you teach yourself to do something new, or improve at something?  ‘Cause really, in the end, it’s all you and your efforts.  And, how you study your efforts and the production from your productivity.

8:35-8:40pm:  Think about how you use your time, be as efficient as possible.  Any suggestions for us?

8:40-8:50pm:  Closing…. What’s in your notes for tonight/on tonight’s page?

Assignment:  Read the first four essays in Sedaris’ book.  Please also read the “Author’s Note”.  Be prepared to discuss and offer ideas on Tuesday.  And as with every assignment, WRITE IN YOUR JOURNAL. Let me know if have any questions.  Enjoy your weekend!!!  Find Happiness and Humor, EVERYWHERE.

I’m not sure if efficient is a word I would use to describe the use of my time, but I am efficient. For example, I tend to procrastinate a bit when it comes to homework, I have never been the one to jump on an assignment the second its assigned, but I also don’t wait until the day its due. Kinda weird. I will spend my day listening to music, reading, watching videos, cooking baking, etc and then when Im ready Im ready to do what I need to do for homework or whatever I need to do and I am extremely productive and creative.. I dont have a specific recipe of efficiency for my time. I just do what feels right and when I am mentally ready and focused. I dont force myself before Im ready or I will just be distracted and won’t be productive. If that all makes sense LOL

I have to admit that I am the worse when it comes to time management. First I love to procrastinate, I have gotten better about not waiting until the last, last second. Then I am also not good at multi-tasking which isn’t good when you are a little ADD, I find my self with many projects all unfinished. On the other hand when someone gives me a specific task I can laser focus on that and get it done, just not until the deadline is near.

Organization for me is key, so when I want to use my time efficiently I list all of my activities/tasks. Organizing lists helps me balance work, life, and school without feeling overwhelmed.

Typically when I’m teaching myself something new, like for example a song on the piano. I do it in different parts at a time, and just practice those individual parts over and over. I’ll practice the chords for a while, then start working on the actual notes because it all comes together in the end.

One last note for your notes….. See everything as forward steps. If you “fail”, you don’t fail. You learn. Learning what works and what doesn’t is advancement.

There’s a lot of things that we don’t have time for but that’s when you have to make time. We need to figure out what our priorities are and make time for them.

I definitely need to use my time more wisely. I haven’t gone to school in four yers, so getting back into school mode and making the time to study and get homework done is something I still struggle to do, but I’m taking it day by day and figuring what works best for me as I go along.

What’s in my notes tonight, is how differently I can take things in, and how I can put things out. You can take things slow because things aren’t always being thrown at you. So just doing things and my own pace and my own way.
