ASSIGNMENT: Write two pages about anything and email to me before next class. And get the friggin books!!!!!!! We’ll start with Ms. Irby. Also, start writing in your journal, and feel free to email me pictures of scribbled pages for some additional credit.

“Be more human than scholastic or academic”.
To me this, this quote has to do with flaws, and one can encounter a lot of flaws in the English literature, if every book was prefect it would be quite boring, when we focus on academic papers we tend to over think, ergo to “error is human”; thus many great writers have always been near prefect, because they still make grammatical errors in their own works.

it was a nice reminder to read that everything is attainable. I wrote down that what I desire is indeed in arms reach I just have to convince my mind to believe the same so I can acquire all that I would like in life. I wrote that in times I feel it is so impossible to get my hands on something to dive deep to why I feel like this? what is stopping me? i wrote my appreciation for your comment about being more human than academic. I have always tied in personal experiences with english papers and being vulnerable made me feel uncomfortable but I appreciate your acknowledgment of being more human with writing. thank you thank you

Oh man, I currently have nothing in my notes, although I’m sure that will change. Adapting to this layout, given how unique it is compared to my other classes, has been a bit of a struggle for me tonight. Notes are posted on the main page, yes?

Then I would probably do a bit of journal writing before bed on how the first day of classes are going and about “Thinking is Human, NOT academic in origin, nor intention.” as I really enjoyed writing and thinking about it.

To be more human than scholastic or academic means that writing doesn’t have to be something that you do just for a grade. Put what you are passionate about into your writing in whatever way you can. Your best work is the work you do because you really believe in what you are talking about, without that passion even the most logical factual essay will be lackluster. In some cases we have to write about things that aren’t super important, but I always try to find a reason my writing is important to me regardless of the prompt.

SOMETHING FOR YOUR NOTES, FOR TONIGHT….. Know that you are going to do exactly what you want to do, and what the work you put forth assures you’ll do. If you get a B, you did that work. An A, same. You decide your outcome. Excuses do not get you across the bridge.

I like to bring human-ness into my education because it helps me understand and dive into information. To me, it is a form of self care. After a traumatic event that caused me to almost dropout of high school, being human was the only thing I really had. School was otherwise pointless to me until I was able to frame it as a means to an end. To excel at school I had to understand that my teachers were/are human as well. Classes became less of a social chore and more of a hurdle to overcome. The finish line is understanding and applying the information to your life/career.

In my notes I wrote some goals for myself this semester. Some of them are to try and engage deeply in the reading material to make the most out of it, to further my vocabulary, and to be more open when writing so I can bring the most out of my creative side.

I believe that this writing class will have a lot to show me, it has already got me thinking what will I write about next, maybe I’ll write what I read, or what happened to me, the more I write about the better my typing skill will grow that’s for sure.

My notes are mainly filled with more detailed/personal answers to the prompts. Just a longer, possibly more scrambled version of what I’ve commented so far. With extra sidebars and doodles haha

“Be more human than scholastic or academic.”
To me, this means that we should express ourselves the way WE want to. We are all different people with different backgrounds but we are all human. We should be able to express ourselves the way we want to willingly not forcefully.

I like this way of learning it’s different but in a good way, The main thing I have on my notes/journal is just a reminder to myself to write everything even though I may think that it’s something small, Sometimes that small thing can turn into something bigger.

I can’t agree more you should be more human than scholastic or academic, but there must be a right balance. You shouldn’t drift that far away from your academic work.

In my previous English classes, I felt so pressured into pouring my words into a mold, rather than expressing exactly what I was feeling. I love to mess around and compose texts but get anxious when they get criticized. Perhaps this is my own personal development issue.
I’m currently waiting for a Mediterranean dish with peppers, shrimp, tomatoes and feta. I’m exciteeedd

My notes look like some chicken scratch tonight but the highlights are as follows:
Don’t get too in your head when writing and really just let your thoughts out on the page.
I’m really liking the creative freedom in this class already, I can see the benefits already.
I think we can all agree that rules and restrictions do nothing but harm when it comes to creativity.
I definitely don’t cook

Being human allows for infinite possibilities and we know some perfectly flawed. Scholastic and academic sounds much like an institution, a predictable set of rules. The knowledge that is acquired from such a place can make one feel better about themselves, their new sense of intellectual development, but if we aren’t mindful, the ego…it could pull someone irrationally backwards, eliminating any sort of expressive or transcendent experience.

I enjoyed reading about everybody’s different expectations for this class as well as seeing the difference between other English classes as this one. I like how you emphasize the creative side of writing rather than strict outlines and forced perspectives. Thank you for tonight. It was a very different, yet fun way to take an online class

What’s in my notes? Well, as of now, my method that I plan to implement as I am fairly new with navigating this page…
First, cut and paste your initial blog post in a word document as a key reference so I don’t have to constantly scroll up and down.
Next, type my answers out in the word document.
Then, copy and submit them here to engage with the you and the class.
Finally, I will hand write them in my new journal.
We’ll see how this goes. Thank you Professor Mikey.
