7-7:10pm: What are you writing in your journal? Haven’t started? All good…. Please try it!!
7:10-7:30pm: Sedaris findings… Share your thoughts. What sources did you find?
7:30-7:50pm: His character…. How would you describe it?
7:50-8pm: Before we read, what do we want from our read? That is… do you have certain expectations? What do you like to read? How do you like to feel after reading something?
8pm-8:15pm: Tell us about how you read…. Do you take notes? Write in the margins of your book? In a journal? WHAT?
8:15-8:35pm: As a student, we are constantly challenged, and show new approaches to working on our projects. We are “taught”, yes, but we also self-educate. How do you teach yourself to do something new, or improve at something? ‘Cause really, in the end, it’s all you and your efforts. And, how you study your efforts and the production from your productivity.
8:35-8:40pm: Think about how you use your time, be as efficient as possible. Any suggestions for us?
8:40-8:50pm: Closing…. What’s in your notes for tonight/on tonight’s page?
Assignment: Read the first four essays in Sedaris’ book. Please also read the “Author’s Note”. Be prepared to discuss and offer ideas on Tuesday. And as with every assignment, WRITE IN YOUR JOURNAL. Let me know if have any questions. Enjoy your weekend!!! Find Happiness and Humor, EVERYWHERE.

Good evening!!!

Something I’ve been writing in my journal is ways I have been distracting myself during these times such as drawing or cooking.

I have been righting my workouts and what I eat in my journal. It helps stay on track and also have been righting what I need to buy from the store. Also weird interactions with people that I have.

Honestly, I haven’t written physically in a journal yet, I’ve kind of just been jotting things down in my notes on my phone and then I was planning to revisit them and write an actual journal.

I have been using my journal to write anything that goes through my mind that takes more than like 5 minutes to think about. It has actually helped a lot with figuring things out that are troubling me. It also helps keep my mind on one topic.

So far in my journal, I’ve been writing a little bit of everything! The most recent one was about a dream I had where I was an only child which is super random to dream about and also made me realize how thankful I was to have my siblings!

I started journaling kind of recently and it was nice, helps me just take time from the day to think and reflect which is highly underrated and quite freeing/fun. But I haven’t recently because I felt out of my usual groove and have been quite busy. So all in all I need to stop procrastinating.

I found that I love Sedaris and so does A LOT of people. I watched a youtube video called “David Sedaris: On Being an Open Book” and I totally recommend it. I also watched others, but that one stuck out to me. People feel like they know him through his essays.
He does make humor out of situations instead of getting mad and you can observe that in the videos and writing. I am excited to read his work!

The way that he writes really intrigued me, the way he uses humor while writing about “dark” topics such as his sisters suicide, is something ive havent seen. Instead of focusing on either humor or “dark” he combines them nicely.

I found two interviews that really caught my attention. I found that at first he comes off a little shy but once he opens up he is like an open book. He truly is so real, with everything. So transparent, so full of happiness and humor. His personality is quite honestly very humble. He seems like he wants you to feel what he feels so that you can relate to him and that draws you in. He makes his expeiriences so “normal” I can’t wait to learn more from him.

I found some articles about his past and success as a writer but I found the YouTube videos to give me a lot of insight about what his relationship with his father was like and their family dynamic more than than the articles.

I was intrigued by a particular quote David Sedaris added in a video on YouTube called , “David Sedaris teaches Storytelling and Humor | Official Trailer |”. He said, “Write something that stinks, try and fail. Failure is fantastic, don’t underestimate failure”. I will definitely be applying this to every aspect of my life.

My findings on Sedaris were interesting. I just watched a couple of youtube videos of him being interviewed on late night shows, and he seemed like a positive funny guy. I liked his style, he had a cool suit on when he was on Jimmy Kimmel. Every time he would say something, it’d always get a laugh out of the audience.

I think Sedaris is very funny. He is very open with a lot of his life and he seems like a very happy person. He talks about situations in his life and reflects on them in a funny way. I really like him

Just a really funny guy. Obviously very intelligent and it is quite fun to be taken along a narrative through his point of view, he does such a good job painting a picture in your head of stories he tells. Quite looking forward to reading more of him.
