7-7:10pm: What are you writing in your journal? Haven’t started? All good…. Please try it!!
7:10-7:30pm: Sedaris findings… Share your thoughts. What sources did you find?
7:30-7:50pm: His character…. How would you describe it?
7:50-8pm: Before we read, what do we want from our read? That is… do you have certain expectations? What do you like to read? How do you like to feel after reading something?
8pm-8:15pm: Tell us about how you read…. Do you take notes? Write in the margins of your book? In a journal? WHAT?
8:15-8:35pm: As a student, we are constantly challenged, and show new approaches to working on our projects. We are “taught”, yes, but we also self-educate. How do you teach yourself to do something new, or improve at something? ‘Cause really, in the end, it’s all you and your efforts. And, how you study your efforts and the production from your productivity.
8:35-8:40pm: Think about how you use your time, be as efficient as possible. Any suggestions for us?
8:40-8:50pm: Closing…. What’s in your notes for tonight/on tonight’s page?
Assignment: Read the first four essays in Sedaris’ book. Please also read the “Author’s Note”. Be prepared to discuss and offer ideas on Tuesday. And as with every assignment, WRITE IN YOUR JOURNAL. Let me know if have any questions. Enjoy your weekend!!! Find Happiness and Humor, EVERYWHERE.

What I hope to get out of reading his book would be a better understanding of him as a person.

Not gonna lie but I don’t really like reading. I haven’t found a book that I really like to read and finish reading the book. Hopefully, this book makes me change my mind and makes me want to read it. David Sedaris was seen to be a very interesting guy because he different from other writers.

Understood, but you also have to give the text and yourself a chance with the reading. And take your time.

No specific expectations for the book, but I’m hoping to get a laugh out of it along with learning something new. Coming from David Sedaris and researching him, that’s what I’m expecting to read.

Typically, I like to read things that are action packed like something interesting that always makes you wonder what could be next, like books that you don’t want to put down. That’s not my specific type to read, I’m pretty open.

I like to read on my Kindle.. I love that i have virtually any book right at the tip of my fingers… I know you can’t beat a gold ol paper book.. But I find for my ADHD ass and active lifestyle, a Kindle is a better fit for me. I can jump around from different books depending on my mood.. I can read in bed, in a car, outside, on the couch, at the beach… you get the idea.

I always was told I am crazy because I would read more than one book at once. Finally someone else that can relate lmao.

i want to be intrigued by the reading. ill be honest i haven’t read very many books from front to back, but the ones that i have were great. i like books that actually make me want to keep turning the page. i enjoy stories that tell the full story up front and the rest of the time they’re explaining what really happened. i guess you can call that mystery?

its funny, the last book I really read from cover to cover was probably when i was 16 laying by a pool…ever since I got my kindle (they are surprisingly cheap) you discover soooo many new books and genres and topics and everything.. now I read min. 1 book a week if not more… Highly highly recommend for someone wanting to read more but don’t know really how to discover more books. That was my issue, I never enjoyed wandering through a book store to find a book to read ( don’t get me wrong i enjoy wondering through them looking and smelling the paper but not for a specific mission of searching for a new book)

I really don’t like reading that much, but I hope while reading for this class I can see what kind of genre of books catch my attention and I get more into reading then skipping to the movie.

I’m not a fan of reading. I’ll read a couple of informational articles every now and then but after every book (chapter book) I finish, i’ll hold the book in one hand and ill run my thumb against the fore-edge of the book, and doing so, I get a feeling of accomplishment.

How do I read, Well that is interesting. I hate to get creases in my books so I tend to read with the book not all the way open. I tend to treat every book as though it is historical. I do not tend to take note and I especially never write in one of my books, sacrilege.

I love reading high fantasy novels Sometimes I like to read philosophy books. The only book I have ever taken notes on was Beyond Good and Evil because the ideas in it were very complicated and I needed to look back on them and reflect.

I like to be able to hold a book in my hands, to be able to flip the pages and be in suspense. “What will happen as soon as I turn this page?” I don’t typically take notes, if it intrigues me and draws me in, I remember what the author’s story is trying to tell me. I will stay focused on my read. I will take notes though if it’s key points and important for me to remember. I feel like if I stop and take notes it takes me away from fully engaging in my book.

I like to take notes while I read, but I mostly like debriefing afterwards. For example with an essay I would write in the margins after each paragraph, but after I finish reading the entire essay than I freely write as much thought as I can about it.

The reason I don’t like to read is because every time I do I tend to forget what I just read. Unless it’s a really good book and the reader managed to grab my attention but I’m gonna try note taking as I read to see if it helps.

when i read i don’t usually take notes. i really just try to take in the information and try to put myself in the story and actually picture it, this makes it seem more like a memory to me than just something i read. and if i cant picture it initially, ill usually re-read whatever it is i just read until i can picture it. this makes reading a slow process for me at times but its a better experience for me.

I don’t do much note taking while I read. If I really enjoy what I’m reading, the most I’ll do is some highlighting of whatever it was that got me thinking or meant a lot for me to read so that I can go back to it when I reread it, as I’ll usually read the book at least twice. But I would like to start taking some notes as read so that it could hopefully help me break down the book more and get some better understanding!

Self-education is important in my opinion. I have to be able to self educate for me to be able to function as a person. I constantly look things up, read a lot of what I want to learn until I feel confident on it. I’m not one to keep asking for how to do things. I will ask if I have to but I tend to just grab it by the horns and educate myself as much as I can so that I can be knoledgable on it and teach others.

If I really want to learn something I usually watch youtube videos because you can pretty much learn anything on the internet but personally I feel I learn more off of watching a video of someone doing it and then doing it right after.

In order for me to learn something new or improve my skills at something I like to see how it’s done first, watch different ways it could be done and then come up with my own version on how to get it done. I do it multiply times for me to get it how I want. I’d like to say I am proactive when it comes to learning but for me I need there to be some kind of interest in it. After that I am all in.

Most of what I have learned comes from my own errors. I learn a lot from trying and when I fail figure out a new way to try. As a matter of fact even college is an example of that, when I was in High School, so many years ago, I failed a lot as a matter of fact I graduated with a 0.68 GPA. But Through the years I have learned that so much is just about the effort you put in, something I wasn’t willing to do as a kid.

I have to read outside. I usually go to a park or something and it’s very easy to find isolated places but even if there are distractions i don’t mind, I find interactions with people like that fun. What it comes down to I guess is if i’m going to be in the same place for a while i’d rather be somewhere beautiful than indoors. Just personally makes a better experience for me and in general i like the outdoors more I guess.

I think self-education can be more profound than formal scholarly education (depending on the subject of course) I believe that when someone is reaching out on their own to learn about something it’s more meaningful and you learn more. What I mean by this is that no matter how many classes you’re required or told or recommended to take and you may enjoy and learn from them, but you will truly devour the material of a topic that means something to you deep in your heart. Whether you’re learning how to be a better you, or how to improve an aspect of your life or career, If you go out and take initiative to educate yourself on a topic or area, I truly believe it has a deeper meaning to you.

Honestly there are times where my time management sucks! I like to be as efficient as possible like write down my tasks and appointments in my calendar on my phone, but it sometimes depends on my mood. I am usually one to stay on top of things but when I’m in my feelings, i tend to slack on efficiency. I also think having a partner who doesn’t really manage their time in an efficient way rubs off on you and adds to the slack. Also there are things that can happen that are out of your control and well that can mess you up.
