For tonight’s page: PURPOSE AND INTENTION IN YOUR NARRATION!!!!!
7:10-7:30pm: Before getting into Irby, tell us about your writing style, and how perhaps its moved or re-shaped since the semester started?

For tonight’s page: What’s discouraging to others can be delightful in opportunity to others.

7:45-7:55pm: What was the last essay from her you read? Thoughts?
7:55-8:05pm: How would you describe her style? You’ve done this before, but please provide a little more support of your opinion and assessment of her writing practice.
WRITING PROMPT: Start writing an essay about right now… where you are and what you’re doing, the room you’re in and the characters there with you.
FOR TONIGHT’S PAGE: Conversations with self, for new self. New pages and light.
FOR TONIGHT’S PAGE: Irby in many ways tells us to have conversations with ourselves, that we are always learning about our identity and that identity can change, WHICH IS OKAY!!

Your presence and production is what will get you the grade you want, even more than conventional assignments. Make yourself known, share ideas, connect to each other and create community even in this weird distanced and virtual life we’re all living.
As always, need anything let me know.

Hi everypne! Today I was the day I found out how happy I am of having power because the lady I work for lost power on sunday and she lives in the middle of the woods so when it got dark I couldn’t even see with the small flashlight she had. So today when the power came on day in the afternoon I was so happy, I even did a little dance.

Today I slept a lot. You know the kind of sleep that really just messes you up. I was finishing off Samantha’s book and would randomly just find myself asleep on the couch, in my chair, on the floor, and finally in bed. This sleep is not an indication of the book that I was reading but of my general apathy, again not good sleep just sleep that makes you more tired. I tried a lot to make it not so, I went on a walk, I even lifted weights, and finally I clean the kitchen and yet no go I would start reading and out again. I did eventually finish but I feel I owe Her some more quality time and will try again tomorrow.

You want a narration, if nothing Samantha Irby has taught me to be honest with my writing.

My writing style has changed a lot actually since the semester started.. my writing went from trying to be formal like if I am presenting something to more writing from my heart with actual feelings and thoughts.

my day pretty much consisted of myself at work and doing schoolwork. Work was boring at first because it was a slow day but my coworkers made it better so it wasn’t too bad. I got home took a quick nap since I fell asleep late working on some assignments, woke up and did more school.

hey everyone! haha yeah i would definitely saw my day could be viewed as humorous. I had a terrible sleep last night and woke up at 2:30 in the afternoon today, shattered my all time sleep in record, quite impressed and both disappointed at the same time. So im like only 4 and half hours into my day today, quite strange and would never recommend. What’s everyone else’s day consisted of?

My day was filled with a lot of manual labor. First I did hardworking from about 8am to 12 cutting trees and raking leaves. Then after lunch I sat on a five gallon bucket and sanded the side of a house for about four hours.

I am not sure that I have yet to develop a style. I still find writing is something I only want to do if I have to do it. But with that said I do like to write when given a general direction but not told what vehicle to get there in.

Instead of style then, how about ‘identity’?

Hope everyone is having a good day so far! Today, my day wasn’t as exciting as I would have hoped for it to be but still productive never the less. Woke up to a notification from a couple who posted the pictures I took of them for their anniversary which was super exciting for me. I started doing photography a couple months ago so I was excited for everyone to see some pictures I worked really hard on (: After that, got up from bed and made some breakfast that consisted of eggs (sunny side up) and toast. I then went to Petaluma for a car wash, it was long overdue, then came home to attend my geography class that I am beginning to despise. After class ended, I drove out to the srjc to sit outside and do some studying as I recently figured out I study better outdoors, but was asked to leave as the whole campus was closed (oopsie, I had no idea), drove home, took a nap, and now im here!

Hello Everyone! Today was a great day, again very productive. It started out with a small breakfast: avocado toast with a sunny-side-up egg and a cup of coffee. Mmm… Then I worked on some homework for other classes and ended my afternoon with a long walk in order to clear my mind, I’ve had a long week.

I would say that since the beginning of the semester my writing style has changed from trying to share facts in my own words to just sharing more of my opinion on the facts of a certain subject and how i can relate to it personally or give personal examples to show my understanding of that subject. and if i’m just narrating my day or another story in my life then the facts are from my memories so i just write it how i remember it and try to show the emotions that i felt in that time.

In this class my writing style has changed a lot. Throughout high school I never wrote in first person or about myself it was always essays or research papers but in this class I mostly write about myself through the blog and in the assignments and I find I enjoy it a lot more.

Why is the source of the enjoyment??

well I tend to not think about what I do during the day so this class and writing about the stuff I did helps me look back and think about whatever was important or I learned in that day. Also I always hated to write especially when we wrote research papers in high school but I find writing about myself isn’t too bad

Try using writing as a recount of what happened, the react..

I would say my writing style is narrative writing or creative writing. I enjoy doing creative writing since its a way for me to easily describe and explain a story. Creative writing allows me to see my creativeness since it is something imaginative and original.

My writing style definitely had changed over the years from middle to high school and now in college. My high school years I wrote many persuasive essays but once joining this class I was able to be more free with my writing and able to do more creative writing.

Before the semester started, my writing was structured. I would almost consider it an expository style of writing. Now, I think my writing has become more narrative, relaxed, less thought out.

My style of writing is more on the creative, story telling side. If I can pick up a pen and must go crazy, I will definitely go ahead and do that. I find that to be the best way for me to show my most authentic self on paper.

I will say that I am less intimidated by my own writing. I was someone who failed my english class 3 of the 4 years I was in high school. So I did not hold hopes that I would enjoy and or do well in this class, but I have been surprised by myself. I would say that is the biggest reshape of my writing is that I am no longer scared of it.

For me if I can relate or enjoy the writing topic, Im more creative with it and it comes easier than a writing topic that i have to write about. But i try to not to think about my writing so it would come naturally to me.

I think since the beginning of the semester, my writing has changed more in the sense that I don’t over-think what I’m writing about. I always fear that what I want to write about or include in my writing, is too weird or boring, but after reading Sedaris and Irby, I feel like maybe others may think its hilarious, relatable, or even genius.

Personally, I think my writing style is pretty free. I write anything that comes to mind int the first place. The problem is that I can sometimes that I run of topic, and have to pull my self back.

I tend to write exactly what comes to mind and then re read the whole thing before I turn it in or whatever the case may be. One thing I find myself doing a lot is making very long run on sentences.

me too. I’ve always struggled on how to stop that while making it look good. The thoughts and creativity and such have always came pretty easy to me but not the structure of it. Guess i wasn’t paying that much attention during that part of English class.

i would say that Irby and I are alike in a sense of having a lot of self doubt. we question our abilities too much and we overthink a lot, but we seem to overcome it and find the power within ourselves and we are capable of more than we believe. But i do feel that Irby is much more open than i am…. like, i tell it how i see it but Irby will go into much greater detail and leave no stone unturned.

Irby and I are alike in my ways, but where i connected with her was, I sensed that shes a bit of a germaphobe, which I am the biggest germaphobe you will ever met! We are different in the sense of family and tradition. I was luck growing up the way I did, and Im am very sentimental with things that people give me.

I was brought into this world to a young couple unlike Samantha. I feel she faced many challenges growing up, and has had a difficult life( family wise). But, despite it all she is optimistic, expressive and open to new experience. Which is gold and makes me rethink one or two things.

Irby and I are stubborn and do not like to change. We both are larger people who like to eat. We differ in that Irby is lazy and I do not see myself that way. I do enjoy sitting down and watching TV on a Saturday but after I’ve tried my hardest throughout the week.

. I’m not sure how much I like irby. I’m having a lot harder time getting engaged with her writing the way I was able to do freely with sédadis. While I totally enjoy some of the points/comments she makes (the cat being a gremlin child who is in regular contact with dark spirits for one example) I’m not enjoying her stories as much

I feel we are alike because she doesn’t care what people think about her and I don’t either I will always say how I look and still feel good about myself. “I’m fat and black”.
