HEY whats up class!
We could combine the 3 authors because they all have something in common!
What is one thing you learned about YOU, today?
I learned I am very patient. I babysit once in a while and kids are a lot to handle sometimes but I can deal with them and love being around kids.
one thing I learned about me today is that I have alot of respect for the authors of each book even though at first I was unsure. This seems to be the same kind of feeling I am getting from the art projects I have been working on. At first it seems tricky then it starts to make sense.TO take things slowly and give myself enough time to work on writing or reading for that matter.
I am super excited and motivated to work on essay this final. The reading has had a real good influence on me and I feel that it can be integrated into the writing process. I am good. I feel not simply motivated to continue learning but also happy with what I am reading. I feel that each person has something different to teach us. Sedaris was a good start, it seemed like that guy could just go anywhere in the world, Irby has enough personality to start me writing myself and playing instruments , and last but not least foreman has a way of inspiring people that is timeless. He is really giving his all and he keeps the momentum up whether it is running, working, or being straight up with people, not a bad dude to get inspired by.
How are finals for you, Professor Mikey? A lot of grading?
Always. But NOTHING slows or stuns me. #tirelessmealwayz
Respectable
I am still gathering information for my essay outline. The authors from these three texts are om the works sited page no doubt!
What I learned about myself is that I can get very frazzled.
What I learned about me is that NOTHING can stop diminish my drive.
I am currently working on my essay and I wrote 10 minutes a week will make a difference?
I am rereading the old books
Noise around you can be muted by focus on your work. So…. no excuse for not finishing the essay and having it be your BEST work. How would grade the effort you’ve put toward this final effort for English 1A?
Re-read your notes….
Write more than you think….
I am looking forward to my 23rd bday tomorrow! unfortunately, it is the first year I’ve been over 21 and on a Friday…so no bar crawls for me tomorrow 🙁 but I am feeling awesome, been going to orange theory outside every day for the last few weeks and that has really lit a fire under my ass with school and the end of the semester. I have a few assignments for one class left (due tomorrow at midnight) so I’m trying to get that done. I bought myself new skis for my birthday so I can not wait to try them out.
Happy birthday!!
It seems like each one of these authors wants to Make a Difference by doing the work and living fully and completely ! No hindrance or regret.
Elaborate…
Sedaris is not taking any shit and living his best life though it seems he is very much in his headspace. Irby though similarly is a little different because she is using pretty much everything she’s got to keep the reader entertained and also, a little impressed. Foreman is running the marathons like he is a young man and I don’t think anyone can really stand in his way at this point, he is going for it and making it count. Especially when needed.
Currently I am figuring out my subpoints for my essay then looking for evidence to support them. Found a nice interview I am gonna use with David Sedaris. Gonna try to find a good Samantha Irby Interview. I watched a couple but didn’t have anything I could use for my ssay.
How do those interviews help?
The Interview with David Sedaris gave me a better look into his need to write and he talks about his journals that he writes in every day which I believe will help me in my paper that is focusing on the Authors purpose and their drive to write.
Rereading, reading summaries online, and watching a few interviews on youtube for my outside resources.
How do you start your essay?
Are you proud of your work so far?
In the process of making it something I am proud of, I am rereading over it, adding, and changing.
Examples? Elaborate…
What do you want to change about, or build upon with, your work habits toward this essay?
I want to work on it for about an hour a day instead of cramming last second which I have been able to do for the last couple days.
I have my outside sources, I have my essay structure Im in a good stop, I just need to type it out.
I reread points in the book that I had previously highlighted, I read reviews/book club type discussions as well as some biographies, and an interview to help tie it all together. over all I am pretty happy with how it turned out
Hey there guys! Sorry I was having technical difficulties with my internet. I am good, I have been busy boy, but all is well and I am excited for the holiday to be over with. No I am no grinch but Man do I have a lot going on right now. As far as my essay, I have you tube as my references. I have not completed my essay yet, I plan on taking the day tomorrow to gather my thoughts and then type it all out by Saturday or Sunday.
my essay starts with… If you wrote a book about your greatest adventure or adventures in your life, would you be happy with what you believe the outcome would be?…. so far i have only wrote about my thoughts and I’m still sorta gathering more things on each author and their work to make a stronger opinion on what i believe ties them all together
Only use your research to strengthen the idea you already have…
Sick of talking about the essay… and to be honest, we shouldn’t have to at this point. You should know where you are and what you’re going to do. Just write, stop thinking…. you should know if the essay is consistent, coherent, with conviction or not.
I am working on outline for essay and I feel these novels could be good examples of the sort of feeling one has when traveling, writing to ones self or another, or simply just trying to get back into the swing of things. It seems like a lot of good can come from doing your best to teach yourself how you want to write or what should be read.
How do you balance everything and remain composed, yourself, during the semester ending?
Honestly, Each time I begin reading I go into a meditation and do my best to extract the main idea or most important concepts. This is because they are hard to find otherwise.
I do get a little frazzled, but to keep my composure I just take on assignment at a time, because if I try to do multiple things at a time I can’t focus
Yes… like Tom said the other night – run to one corner, then the next…
It’s hard to keep it together honestly, it’s quite complicated and if you’re a parent it’s even harder but you have to try you’re hardest to keep it together by doing things to try to de-stress and distract your mind from it all. At least for a little bit.
You’re doing great, Consuelo.. cheers.
quite honestly I don’t know how I balance everything, I kind of just go day to day and try to get things done that I know need to get done and somehow I’ve done what I needed to and I try to do the same the next day and the balance seems to come naturally. some days it does seem a bit out of whack but that’s when I take a step back and re-evaluate to get back on track.
My outside sources are interviews that all three had given, they were asked about their stories and they gave the purest answers even though it was an ugly situation that they were in.
Same, I feel interviews for me work the best.
It’s the author speaking from their truest truth, so always a value there..
I need to be harder on students, I’m realizing. OR… you need to be harder on yourselves. And not this class, specifically, but just principally I need to be. One thing I’ve learned over the past few semesters. You didn’t finish an essay, because YOU didn’t want to write it.. or YOU didn’t find time to write it. There are factors, always… but the author of the writing is the decision-maker.
Honestly, I do need to be harder on myself when it comes to school and writing, I get caught up in other things and I have too many distractions.
You’re a human, you’re allowed to be distracted. The extent of the distraction is what needs address.
At the end of the day, it’s you who has to be harder on yourself.
True..
I appreciate you, who are CONSISTENTLY offering ideas. Thank you…
Who has a question for the colleagues, regarding YOUR essay?
Okay then… I have one….. Do I begin my essay with a question?
No, The main idea comes first and then the hook, though there is no real and definite way to make sure one does not ask a question first or beforehand. Meaning the question is necessary and can be included in the main idea, but the main idea usually comes first…
I would offer the idea of beginning with personal thought, or reaction, reflection…
I think yes if it makes the reader really think. Is it taboo? I think I read somewhere that says staring with a? is not ok.
I began mine with a question. but I think it depends on what you really want to convey to the reader. for instance if it was on a different subject and you want to talk about your career. you can start it with a story about how you decided what kind of career you wanted
We ourselves are our biggest critiques
*critics…. lol
yes yes lol thanks for that
All good. Though, there are critiques… lol
I have one, will you guys read my essay if I would dedicate a whole paragraph to myself? It does relate to my topic
Yes, but mind the length..
Intro, do you start with the comparison in all of them?
In all of them? Not sure I understand, but avoid generalities… never “all” of anything…
I see… ok makes sense.
Text me if you have questions between now and the 26th…
Sometimes I start my essay with a question..so I can draw in the reader
Make sure you answer it, though…
Will do!
Cheers, Cassandra. Enjoy your writing.
I like that!
Is the essay supposed to be about how I feel about the authors or the main idea that is found in each Novel ..?
I have already specified the essays prompt, several times…. a dominant idea in all three books. Concerned you don’t know that, by now..
Thanks, I was double checking, Ill make sure to include the idea taken away from all three books. In my opinion it is to go for ones dreams regardless of fear.
There you go!
