Look around.

Existence seems remarkably comfortable proceeding without your approval.

The clouds drift.
The dogs nap.
The coffee cools.
The old man down the street waters his roses.

Meanwhile, the mind stands at a chalkboard covered in equations, trying to solve a life that is already happening.

What a strange assignment we have given ourselves.

To stand ankle-deep in the ocean, demanding proof of water.

To be loved, yet investigate love.
To be alive, yet cross-examine life.

The day shrugs.

It has places to be.

It slips past the courtroom.
Past the committee meetings.
Past the motions and objections and appeals.

The day simply arrives and says:

“Come along if you’d like.”

No threat.
No deadline.
No punishment.

An open invitation.

The kind that has been waiting for you all along.
