7:10-7:30pm: Let’s talk about humor in Composition. How is humor part of composition? How can humor be literature? What is the value to humor? Has anyone heard of David Sedaris? If so, what do you know?
7:30-7:50pm: Analyzing humor, comedy, anything that makes us laugh. What does it do to the writing? Just make it entertaining, or something else?
7:50-8pm: Finding funny in everything…. Can it be done?
8-8:20pm: Humor in our lives, in our families, in some of the dumb stuff we do…. What do you think? Me, I have to laugh at myself when I f/ck up, otherwise it poisons my mood and vibe.
8:20-8:40: David Sedaris…. Someone who writes differently. In a diary then to a formal essay. He teaches us not just about comedy, but about writing an essay. To enjoy the liberated writing in a diary or journal first, then organize. To make writing yours!
8:40-8:50: Close…. What do you have in your notes/on tonight’s page?
ASSIGNMENT: 1, Research David Sedaris. 2, type and EMAIL ME a 2-page reaction to your findings on Sedaris…. What do you think of him? What is he like? What sources did you find useful? (HINT: Watch his videos on YouTube, to start!). 3, write out your goals for this semester, not just for this class but all-encompassing, and write how you plan to satisfy them. Be prepared to discuss next meeting.

I have laughed recently and surprisingly in fact. We had a death in the family last week and the other night we were sharing stories and no one could stop laughing from all the great memories.

7:00- I did get a good laugh in today. It was actually during my geography zoom class I had earlier today. One of my classmate kept falling asleep during class and found it amusing as I was also fighting my sleep!

There have been many times where I find myself laughing randomly. I find myself laughing the most when hanging out with my brothers.

Have i laughed lately? Yes I have! It was during a zoom meeting we had for work today, one of our supervisors forgot to mute themselves she was humming some of the Hamilton songs while she was taking notes today. She was a little flustered but she laughed the hardest. We all ended up talking about the Hamilton Musical for about 5 minutes of the meeting and we called it a day after. It was nice to get our heads out of work and everything going on for those 5 minutes.

So I laughed today. I have a one year old (my nephew) at the house with me during the day. So he is at that stage where he is trying to mimmic your sounds. So this is going to get good. I farted in front of him and not a quiet one and the first thing he did was look at me and attempt to make the same sound with his mouth, like that was how I did it. I fell on the floor laughing.

Hi everbody! I laughed today on my flight back home because I was blocking my sister from looking out the window seat which I thought was funny, because she was trying to look outside. I think everyone eventually has to laugh at some point.

Hey everyone today I went river rafting with my uncle and it was super cold but we had a good time. It took a couple hours so we talked a lot and most of the stories he was telling me were pretty funny so it helped brighten the mood for a day with everything else going on around us.

I think that human is a huge part of the composition, there’s nothing better than a good book or article that already has your attention and then you find yourself laughing out loud. That is the best!! Humor keeps things light and entertaining and I believe it can be a type of medicine!

I watched Ace Venture last night for the first time is so long. That sh/t is HILARIOUS. What works about the humor, is randomness and exaggerated nature… For me.
Sometimes humor can diffuse tension in literature. I believe humor has a lot of values, for example it can bring relationships closer. And I have never heard of David Sedaris.
Humor is priceless! I think laughter signals engagement, this might be the reason to why someone might laugh along with someone else. Through humor people show their willingness to want to connect and to interact with one another.

I think Humor is part of composition because no matter how you tell a story there is always a laughable moment. At least thats what I think. Humor I feel is part of how your feeling which in part helps tell your story so you can apply it to literature. Humor is very valuable, as a human being we need it to be able to deal with some of our stressors in life. I have never heard of Davis Sedaris. Looking forward to finding more info about him.

As far as Humor n writing I can’t say that I have experimented with it much. What I do know though is that almost every great comedian is also an avid writer.

Humor can be shown through writing in many ways. That’s why there are comedians who write there material down. As well as movies that are comedy have to have the write “formula” to find the sense of humor. Even skits from a person on youtube.
I think humor in composition makes light of heavier topics. It integrates smoothly and gives readers or viewers a chance to breath and think. Humor is also a great way to break the ice of certain topics or messages. I have never heard of David Sedaris

A note for your notes….. You don’t even really have to try and find humor in moments that frustrate you, or that are otherwise seemingly insignificant or commonplace.
Way to true I often find myself laughing when I am angry and frustrated. Most often over the absurdity of what got me in that sort of mental state in the first place.

I think that Humor is one of the most important parts of a composition, it not only gives the reader motivation to read on, it also gives HAPPINESS!

I think the value of humor in literature is important because you should always try to be positive and see the light at the end of the tunnel. I haven’t heard of David Sedaris until I bought the book for this semester.
