English 5 – Monday 3/1//20

5-5:10pm:  HI!  Tell us about your weekend, and day so far?  TELL US A STORY… we as readers will decide what it means…

5:10-5:35pm:  Telling a story… nothing is boring.  Why do people think of themselves as boring?  EVER?  As a narrator, the only thing you decide is whether to write or not.  that’s it.

5:35-6pm:  Do you know anyone with a story that would be interesting to read?  Someone in your life?

6-6:20pm:  Irby… so much truth.  So much insecurity, strength, and insight…

6:20-6:30pm:  Close…. what’s on the night’s page?

ASSIGNMENT:  Get Irby’s book!!  Start reading, as much as you’d like… report back on Wednesday.

ASSIGNMENT:  Write some stories, sketches, moments from your life.  Recently or not, I don’t care.  JUST WRITE YOU.

Hi everybody, My day hasn’t been too bad. I have been recently trying to fix my procrastination problem and I was hoping that this essay would be the perfect time to practice it. I set up a schedule for deadlines that i wanted a certain part of the essay to be done. sadly It didn’t work out too well. However, I am happy that I did not do it all at one time. I worked on my essay for 3 days rather than one. I know it isn’t much progress but I wanted to share it with you guys because I have been struggling with this since middle school and I know it is something that I really need to work on.

my day was exciting! I got up early to do some homework, napped for a little and then went on to the stable where my horse is current boarded. I’m currently building my own corral from scratch where I will be placing my (wild) mustang which I will get next week! very excited to put in the last blocks to finish building the facility.

Hey everyone! Excited that I was able to turn in my completed essay yesterday, as that was quite the relief. I’ve been in classes most of the day, but at the least I have had my cat paying attention to me for much of the day. Just got back on track in terms of exercising, starting incredibly small but looking to build to bigger and better things!

Hi y’all! Tomorrow is my birthday! To celebrate, my best friend and I drove down to the Marin Headlands this weekend to hike and have a picnic. We climbed inside of some of the old buildings along the cliffs to enjoy the view of the bay. Then we came back to my place and watched Rent (my first time seeing it, Seasons of Love slaps but I’m not sure how I feel about the rest of it yet lmao). It was really nice and probably one of the most enjoyable birthday experiences I’ve ever had.

Today had a few surprises. Around 12:30 I got a phone call from my jobs business office where they told me I could get the first part of the covid vaccine at 1:30. When I got to the place there was no line so it only took about 5 minute to get my vaccine and a 15 minute waiting period. When I got home I took my pup for a walk for public training (hes basically scared of everything) and he pulled out of his harness and hauled his ass home. We were only a few blocks away but I wasn’t wearing the type of shoes you run in and I lost one on the way (still cant find it). Tbh my biggest surprise was my dog actually knew where we lived since he rarely lets me pull him out of the house.

I have a story! On Thursday my family and I went to get my first covid vaccine shot and afterward, everyone stayed home except me and my sister because we had to work and it went well the only thing I felt was little stings on my hands. However, when I went to sleep I could hardly sleep because my hand felt paralyzed and I kept waking up because I was thirsty. In the morning I felt dizzy and I had a fever and I hated the feeling and I began having lots of thoughts because it was the first time I had felt sick and that day I had to call off and just laid in bed journaling whenever I felt I had to write something down.

Hey everybody! My weekend started off very disorienting and somewhat fast paced, but I gained some inspiration to change some things about my life so I am thankful for it. It started with an early 8 am flight out of Orlando back to Cali, which had me waking up at 6am Florida time. Now, that’s not crazy early but when you take into account that Florida is 3 hours ahead of us, that made for a really long day when I got back. When we landed we had an extra long hour and a half drive back from San Francisco, which tuckered me out. Then on top of that I went to visit my best friend of which I missed so dearly for the 10 days I was gone. I ended up losing track of time and not getting home until 1am… So I was very, very tired at work the next morning. 22 hours awake is not fun no matter if there’s a time change or not. After work I was so tired I went to bed at 8pm, but I decided to use this to my advantage and I have begun an early rising expedition. I want to get up and reap the benefits of the early morning, so starting today, actually, I will be waking up at 6:15 every weekday in order to be more productive during the day.

Here’s a story: I have two dogs, both rescues. One was a stray that we rescued, and the other was an elderly dog we took in from someone who couldn’t take care of him anymore. The elderly dog is a bit needy and whines and barks a whole lot. Recently though he’s been getting a lot worse and it worries me. He is constantly trying to escape and is always whining. and even when he gets attention he is barking. He use to do this often, but I’m worried he’s going to escape and get hurt. He very well taken care of and fed, and he has about an acre of yard to run around in.

I think people fall into the trap of calling themselves boring because we are always around ourselves, stuck with our thoughts. it’s easy to discredit yourself. BuT it’s alsooo easy to let yourself fall into a rut of comfort. It seems safer in the rut because you’re not trying new things, but really it’s just damaging.

I think a big reason people think their own stories are boring is comparisons, especially with the addition of social media where we see glorified lifestyles, especially of celebrities and cannot help but feel less than afterwards. Another reason is probably mental health struggles of all kinds like Lawson struggled with, but she was able to find joy and adventure even in a trip to a pharmacy and make that entertaining.

I think we often regard ourselves as boring because there are SO MANY people out there in the world whom are all up to something, with many of them doing extraordinary things. I couldn’t decide what dvd I wanted to rent so I asked the guy working there what he recommended, and I told him I liked that Winx club show, so he recommended I watch Sailor Moon. Honestly, he really nailed it with his recommendations because Sailor Moon is just a better version of Winx Club. “Learning to combat boredom is a lesson in and of itself and it’s one you don’t have to drive [yourself] anywhere to learn.” – J. Lawson. Folks might think they are boring because of lack of motivation to find creativity. Boredom makes you rely on your imagination, taking a sense of reality and making better someway. It can be as simple as seeing a bouquet of dying, unpruned roses and deciding you’re going to bring them back to life. They could have easily gone in the compost.
