I think an interesting discussion piece would be over the ownership of writing. When I pour my heart and soul into a piece, is it truly mine anymore? When it is shared by others, who owns that piece of work? Can literature truly be “owned”?

    1. mikemadigan says:

Why does it have to be “owned”? Sharing should be the aim, in my mind. Not ownership.

    2. @Dominic that is a really good question. I think literature is a way share and put out what you have in you. A way to materialized, you know? And there will be people who will sympathize with it and identify themselves. I feel is more a sharing thing than a owning thing.

I personally don’t think you can force happiness. However, I think this helps to force perspective. Without seeing how bad it can be how can we appreciate how great it can be as well? I think you can trick your mind into thinking you’re happy when you’re not by telling yourself you are, which is a way of forcing yourself to be happy. Sometimes you don’t know you’re truly happy until that moment’s gone. But you look back at it and see that that’s what you want to feel like all the time. I surround myself with people that truly make me happy and laugh til my stomach hurts. I do things I love and give gifts to people I love to see them happy, which makes me happy.

I think for me, happiness stems from gratitude. I don’t think you can force it necessarily, but it is something that you can always be working toward. There is always something you can be doing to improve yourself and doing those things should make you feel accomplished/happy.

I personally do not believe you can force happiness. I believe that we can work towards being happy and set goals and self-improve but, trying to force yourself to be something you’re not especially without working through what is causing you to not be happy doesn’t work. It will build up and resurface and potentially cause more distress or anything but happiness.Although i cannot speak for everyone that is my personal experience.

Reading my story I would want the reader to have a good grip on what i am saying and also I sense of style that can be distinguished. My way of actualizing this is through persistence by writing and rewriting to really form my writing style into what I envision.

I feel like to force happiness it takes a lot of work, I think a way to force happiness is choosing an option that you didnt want to just to put a smile on someones else face. For example, choosing to become a lawyer so your parent can be happy rather you doing what you want. You can for sure force happiness. It so crazy that it happens everyday. But i think if you do what makes you happy then you’ll truly live a happy life

  30. Daniel Bagley says:

You cannot force happiness in general or in a novel. It has to be fluid and make sense in the context of the situation with the personality of the characters. Just writing about happiness doesn’t make it happen. A person has to be able to relate to it so that they can understand it better and actually receive something from the text.

However you can always see things in a different way and try to receive that in a good way. I know it can be hard situations but I am very inspired by a poem called “The guess house” by Rumi.

You can outwardly project you’re happy without actually being happy and this is most likely the closest you can get to forcing it in my opinion. Things that make me legitimately usually involve some form of progress or activity to feel as through my time has not been wasted. Nothing makes me feel more dejected or defeated than wasting time on things I know are not good for me. One of the biggest things that contributes to being happy is allowing yourself to be happy and having a stable mindset to hold balance in your life.

There’s some days when I’m down and I try to “force” happiness on myself by doing things that make me happy/surround myself with people that make me laugh. There’s things I don’t like to discuss and writing them in my journal helps me get them off my chest. So I think you can write it into actuality.
