Busy as heck. I just got home from doing a pre-construction meeting at Willits Airport. Also that airport is occupied by CDF for the fires in the area. So even though I got to see some really cool aircrafts we have to balance out construction and the needs for CDF. I still have a ton of homework to do on top of all the work I need to do for this project.

My day was just filled with a lot of schoolwork for the most part. Went for a walk with my dogs and it was really smokey like ashes falling from the sky. But honestly today was a good day.

Me… I’m underlining a lot, notably any lines that give me more understanding of who Sedaris is. HIS character.

My reading method consists of reading through the text twice. The first is to get a broad idea of the novel while the second is to pull out more details and write notes. From there i read it a 3rd of 4th time if i dont feel i have enough notes.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I like that!! Gotta stay with it, and sometimes that means doing it a few times.
LikeLike
Same but I just read it 2 times at most I feel like if I read more than 2 times I’ll lose interest in it and I can’t put my most effort into it.

well my reading methods are really just reading the chapter and getting a hold of what the author was talking about. I then just summarize what happen and think of notes or quotes i will used for my notes. Its also helps kind of gathering everything and know exactly what im reading or whats happening in the book

I have no reading method in general, I’m too busy trying to just simply reading the words properly. I struggle a lot with reading so it takes me multiple reads to even start to comprehend what the first sentence was really trying to say. I’m hoping reading a book like this will help me to develop a reading method
LikeLiked by 1 person
It will, if you take your time, and if you take notes along the way, and study your own notes. It takes commitment and consistency. 🙂

I tend to do the same a lot too. I just really try to not distract myself and just focus on the reading.

I had the same trouble until I began listening to someone else read and just following along. Maybe try that….it might work, but who knows everyone is different.

Very true. We all have our own remedies and approaches.

Yes ! I seen they have an audio book of it on soundcloud, maybe that will be my method

I tend to focus better when I listen to the book rather than getting sidetracked just reading the book without listening and reading along.

Well I haven’t taken any physical notes about the reading, more mental. But I have learn quit a bit of things about him that are really interesting. I’ll probably start taking little notes on sticky notes, just to try it out and see if I like that method. But I’ve already found myself laughing at things in the reading! Which I love!

I feel like I’ve just jumped straight into the text without a method because of how much I liked it, For the most part I’ve just been devoting my attention to just reading

I was really excited when I started reading the book. I didn’t want to put it down. I was trying to be ahead of the game but now I’m finding I have to go back and reread the essays to get more out of them. I think that I might be slowing down with my reading process going forward

I know that in the first chapter I felt a little personally attacked for also being an American who wants bigger names for things, and perfectly aligned teeth. It didn’t occur to me that this mentality does add a lot of unnecessary stress to things that are very far from life threatening

I generally read each chapter two times. First to get the big picture he is talking about and then to get more details I may have missed and to write my notes and quotes.

Same approach here ! .. and with reading in general. Not the best analyzer, so going over things twice is a big help.

yeah! I also like this method because I can keep it fresh in my mind considering I have been reading 3 books at the same time haha. But I will try writing some notes and then rereading my notes

I approached this book how I approached most of my work in general and found a way to implement it. I would read sections at a time then write down in my notes how I deciphered them in my head and how I feel about them. Reading like this can be tedious at time but in the end it gives me a better understanding of the text and if I have any issues reading it back I can read my first interpretation in my notes.

I liked your method! Definitely will try doing that.

Ill read it typically fast if it is for personal choice. if it is for school or educational purposes I have to slow down a lot to be able to really comprehend everything I am reading to my fullest extent.

I completely relate to this! I found that I enjoyed the essays quite a bit and found myself needing to remind myself to slow down and reflect on each!

The way I read stories is from question-answer point of view like, who is that character, why is he doing that, etc.It helps create mystery while reading stories otherwise I find it very boring to read linearly.

I wouldn’t say I’ve had a particular method of reading. I just jumped in with the first one and kept reading. I found that each essay drew me in in it’s own way. When I’d transition from one essay to another I tried to stop and take notes and reflect because I figured trying to ready them like chapters of the same book might be a little awkward to adjust to because they are all their own narrative.

The way I like reading is annotating as I go to remind me what happens where because it helps me not over look things when i go back and look for a certain part.
