5:10-5:30pm: Parts where Lawson connects to and speaks to you.
5:30-5:50pm: How could this book help with an idea for the final essay this semester?
5:50-6pm: Close… now what? What do you want from Lawson? What do you hope to see?
ASSIGNMENT: Finish the book by end of next week. I’ll be doing check-ins in the meantime. PLEASE do not take this lightly or dismissively. I will expect a demonstration that you’ve read and are generating ides from the book. USE YOUR JOURNAL…. Note crazy, reaching thoughts, note everything. Be more of a Human and less a student.

Trying to just take things day to day until we know some more information. Glad that the book has been exciting to read at the least! How’s your day professor?

Hi Guys! I woke up early and was on the job as soon as it was light. Work today included re working a coy pond. So it was a little messy and sorta smelly but its creative outdoors work I enjoy. Spent the afternoon re working( ok, re writing the response paper), and went on a solid run with my handsome dog. No I’m here! Yay!

Hey guys! Not a crazy day today but I did have a fun conversation with my friend I’m staying with up here in Seattle. We talked about how greedy Americans can be basically just how the world is going to hell in a hand basket. Hunger, water issues, deforestation, etc. Besides the Debbie downer convo I’m happy to be back in class!

After a several hours of zoom classes and doctors appointments, my boyfriend and I were feeling drained. In an attempt to liven ourselves up, we went out in the rain to play with the dogs. We’re lucky enough to be on a small farm in the forest set a part from the rest of the town. Even though life has never been so slow, I feel like this is the busiest I have ever been! Our 10 minute break to play with the animals in the rain was the perfect reset to freshen my mind and to remind me why I am doing what I’m doing.

Doing alright today, had a brief stint overthinking too far into the future and stressing myself out about things that may or may not even happen. But I realized a bit sooner than usual that doing that to myself does more harm than good and I would be much better off focusing on today and what I am currently dealing with, and take life as it comes instead of stressing over what it could be dishing out to me.

Today was hard. Today I felt accomplished for getting out of bed and opening my windows. I sat crouched on the back porch for a long time. Thinking about the lichen that had fallen off the oak trees around my house. Lichen only grows like .25 inches a year, and the bigger pieces are probably older than I am. That’s so cool. The earth just, goes about its ways. Even with people and their issues and their moral quandaries.

I remembered I was supposed to be in my philosophy class mid workout this morning. Luckily I was able to join late and I will be able to make up the class but that wasn’t very responsible of me! It was an innocent mistake but still. I guess I need to get used to my new schedule. I’m considering getting a planner to help but I worry once I adjust to my classes in the coming weeks I’ll get too lazy to use it.

“Mentally ill. it’s a phrase that once scared me, but now I wear it like an old jacket, comfortable but ugly. It keeps me warm when people look at me as if I’ve lost my mind. I haven’t.” I talked about this in my paper as well but this was such a powerful statement for me. It showed how she puts this hardship on display and isn’t scared to let people know. It is also a way to empower others who may suffer from mental illness as well by telling them that they shouldn’t be ashamed of themselves.

I love Lawson’s notes when she waits for her sleeping pills to kick in, I feel like there hard to understand, but I get what she’s saying. “I was worried that if I ever asked to see the dog-food-eating pharmacist the other pharmacists would stop giving me drugs.” this story made me laugh so much and I kind of relate cause I get really curious then get shy or anxious.

The obvious stand out for me came when she spoke of her friend’s advice to pretend you’re good at something. Taking that first step has long been the most difficult part of any process for me, with my anxiety always seeming to get in the way of beginning even things I believe I would enjoy or be good at.

I agree with this very much, when I read that line, “pretend you’re good at it” my eyes widened in realization. Our confidence really does come from within and comfortability in any situation is completely up to how we choose to feel. If you just act like you’ve been there before you’re bound to feel much more comfortable. Fake it till you make it!
