ENGLISH 1A – 5PM

10/6/20

5-5:10pm:  How are you?  What have you been writing?  How are you going to approach the rest of the semester?  And yes, it’s time to start thinking that way, already.

5:10-5:30pm:  Your life as Literature..  Your moments are manuscripts.  What does this mean to you?

5:30-5:50pm:  Do you see your life as Literary?  Why or why not?

5:50-6:10pm:  Ever catch yourself overthinking?  What do you do to change, if anything?

6:10-6:30pm:  How can we use overthinking, rather than fight it?  This is entirely a writing issue…..  And it can go several ways, directions, climbs, and flights.

6:30-6:40pm:  Close…..  What’s on tonight’s page?

ASSIGNMENT:  Continue working on Sedaris essay.  Type a one-page story from your day, and email it to me.  Keep writing in your journal…. Record your observations and react to them!  Buy Samantha Irby’s book, ‘We Are Never Meeting In Real Life’.

I was a little overwhelmed in the past few weeks so for now on (for the rest of the semester) I will give my best but at the same time I am not push me so hard, I will try to be more gentle with myself. I know that in the end, somehow, everything is gonna be alright 🙂

I could say my obstacle today was pretty straight forward. A history class this morning at 9:00 did honestly challenge me. I would say especially because I was tired. However I got through it and learned a lot about the makings of our constitution and the revolutionary War. So some could say my morning was productive, but i’m just going to say it was more surprising then educationally provoking. Anyways how was your morning?

Your life is a story and the memories that stay with you forever are the parts the reader reads to themselves. People dont care about the fact Harry Potter take ate eggs and toast for breakfast and the reader doesn’t care about if you didnt match your socks. They care about the big moments like your first kiss or your first house.

I think I need to increase my consistency. In terms of education, I think the one way to really keep up on work and learning is to keep a consistent schedule and habit to do my work. If there is one thing Sedaris tried to highlight is the importance of a habit, and a habit for my college work I think will benefit me down the line. Even past this semester and through the rest of my educational journey. What are your long term goals to accomplish in College?

Referring to my own life as literature feels odd for me because it makes it seem more important. I am just an average person who’s day to day life is no more interesting than the next persons. If my life was literature it may be more entertaining and rounded.

You can write about anything in your life. Doesn’t have to be interesting, but it’s still literature. I also think that your life is written already out for you. You pretty much just follow a script or story and how your story ends is how its supposed to be

I think it’s important to see your own like as a manuscript because at the end of the day, you are the author to your own life. Though obstacles may occur, you have the power to make a difference and come up with an ending you’ll be satisfied with.

  41. I see my life as literary, definitely! I am always writing lists and jotting down my thoughts. I also love to journal, even before this class I would keep a personal journal. Sometimes, what I am writing isn’t a complete sentence – it may just be a word or phrase. Even if something fun doesn’t happen in my day or week I try to write.

I have recently been trying to find stories in everyday life and it has been really fun! I will walk to a store, for example, have my earbuds in without playing anything, and observe the world around me and create stories in my head as I walk. I’ll make inferences and create characteristics of how I think they would act in their given situation.

Thinking about my life as Literature, it makes my open my eyes and think of my life in ways I haven’t thought of before. For example, if I told had a story about my life it would be different than most because I am a very down to earth person who is very caring and fortunate about my life. I love my life and now love thinking about my life as literature. Going through high school I was always told that the reason I get along with so many people is because I am a leader and listen to others, this is something that would be in my book.

Right now… I have a story around me, provoking and coaching me. The two bigger kids, the three week-old. Everything is instruction, everything is urging me one way or another. Same is true of your life. You don’t need much to write. There’s more than enough literature and prompts right around you, right now.
